Vail is a haven of winter activities teens love, on and off the slopes, under the sun or moon.
SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING
Vail Ski and Snowboard School offers teen programs for ages 13-15. Terrain parks are spread across Vail’s front-side runs, Golden Peak being the hub, and park and pipe lessons are also available. For a more tailored experience, a private lesson allows for up to six students.
TUBING
Adventure Ridge at the top of the Lionshead Gondola has afternoon and evening tubing with roller-coaster thrills. Ride the carpet lift up and feel your stomach drop as you race down. Be sure to call before heading up, as weather can influence opening times.
ICE SKATING
Vail has two quaint outdoor rinks, one at Solaris Plaza in Vail Village and one at Arabelle Plaza in Lionshead. Dobson Ice Arena, located between Vail and Lionshead Villages, is a full-size indoor arena with dedicated free-skate times. All offer skate rentals.
NORDIC SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING
The Vail Nordic Center curves along Gore Creek in the valley’s relatively flat base with stunning views of the adjacent cliffs, frozen waterfalls and Gore Range. They offer classic and skate ski equipment rentals, showshoe rentals and lessons.
SNOWMOBILING
A snowmobile tour allows for throttle-cranking thrills while also providing glimpses of secluded mountain areas in winter. Sage Outdoor Adventures explores the mountains directly west of Vail, while Nova Guides has groomed trails in historic Camp Hale. Door-to-door transportation is provided by both companies.
SKI BIKING
For teens who are comfortable on blue or black runs, a guided tour down Vail Mountain at night is the ultimate rush. Tours begin at Adventure Ridge at the top of the Lionshead Gondola.
DOG SLEDDING
Speeding along behind a team of exuberant dogs is a thrill to remember. Tours are available through Mountain Mushers, pup kisses no extra charge. Door-to-door transportation is provided.
SWEET TOOTH
Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory in Vail Village is a savory and visual treat, with over 400 kinds of sweets, specialty toys and stuffed animals. Mountain Cupcakes in Vail Village bakes everything from salted caramel to lavender macaroon creations. Marble Slab, across from the Transportation Center in Vail Village, blends custom ice cream creations.
